So here’s s.c.a.n.d.a.l., a sub-division of UNKL 347. s.c.a.n.d.a.l. is a small multi-disciplinary studio, which dabbles in various creative areas, including print matter, design, video, photography, exhibitions and more besides.

Still Loving Youth is one of our main projects, published every three months. We describe Still Loving Youth as a multi-format medium, with each edition taking a different form / dimension, and utilising different colaborators.

In publishing Still Loving Youth, collaboration is the key word. The door is wide open to the possibility of working in partnership with a variety of collaborators, whether musicians or the musical community, brand company, institutions, other social or community groups, or even collaborating with other print media partners.

In this premier edition, we collaborated with three bands: Rock N Roll Mafia, Vincent Vega and White Shoes and the Couples Company. These three bands had previously worked with us under the umbrella of a program called Crunkl Ensemble, which aimed to unite three bands from three different musical genres, into a balanced, united activity.

Close friends of the three bands also added to the writing, such as their music video director, or the artist who worked on their albums’ visuals and graphic art. Let’s not forget articles written by friends who are ‘fans’, such as Izabel Jahja who likes RNRM, Jason Tedjasukmana, who is interested in Vincent Vega and Denny Sakrie, who loves White Shoes & the Couples Company.

After the success of the Crunkl Ensemble Program, s.c.a.n.d.a.l and the three bands joined forces to create the first edition of Still Loving Youth, with the theme Past + Present + Future = You. The words Past, Present & Future, we felt represented the characteristics of the three bands, and the word You represents whosoever reads Still Loving Youth.

In working on this edition, the personel of the three bands each made their own contributions. They were hands on in terms of writing, photography and various other roles. Each told their own story, from their thoughts, the story of the bands progress, their favourite fictional character, interviewing their role model to sharing health tips.

“Buy the album, rip it and put it in your ipod or MP3 player”- by our dearest brother, mr oggie adikara

we found this quite a long time ago in one of popular social site nowadays.

the person who actually wrote this is actually our old friend, a guitarist from the band “authority”.

it turns out that he brought our album and threw some words bout it in his personal blog, he even start this fan based facebook group (http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=29599357479)

mr. oggie adikara, thanx a bunch for having us…

“Buy the album, rip it and put it in your ipod or MP3 player”

I work as assistance staff in an accounting firm, a shitty ass job but better than sitting in cubicle all day doing admin work in a company that pays you US$700 a month, i use commuter bus called Busway to get my sorry ass to work as well as going back home, it only cost me less than a US$1 everyday, a pretty good bargain considering the bonus of knowing those ass holes who drives their own car to work keep on cursing Busway for taking a separate lane all to itself. HAH !! Eat My Busway middle finger, smoke Fukkers !!

However, the long commute has been killing me since the first day I start using Busway, not to mention the great numbers of my competitors, fellow Busway user, so I figured I had to find a way to keep my sanity or I will go berserk, while in the same time looking for a cool way in dealing with these everyday “Jakarta Mayhem”, so I tried listening to Seringai’s “Membakar Jakarta”, put it in my MP3 player, then it occured to me it’ll be too obvious listening to Membakar Jakarta, it’s a good song and all but I need a whole album that sort of summarizing my attitude in dealing with Jakarta Mayhem, then I stumble upon my Vincent Vega album, back then I never had a chance in really embracing their music let alone relating myself to their lyrics, so I started uploading their full album to my MP3 player replacing Seringai’s and Burger Kill since their songs was too “obvious” in resisting the Jakarta Mayhem, way much vulgar than Vincent Vega’s songs, with hopes the album could accompany my everyday struggle in the middle class life, in a more elegant way, just like how I see it in the image the lads in Vincent Vega through their music.

It turned out great, I started playing Caleb’s just before my first step on the stairways going to a Busway stop, the hypnotic guitar riff transcends me to a isolated realm, until I could barely feel my feet stomping at cheap iron floor of busway bridge, by the time I get to the Busway stop and paying for the fare it was almost at the end of Caleb’s and my long commute tasted less bitter, well, still bitter, but in a cool bitter kind of way, sort of like drinking espresso rather than black coffee…

By the time I arrived at BEJ tower I couldnt take off my ear phone because the songs sort of becoming my soundtrack troughout my long commuter, the whole idea of my resistance of an everyday boring middle class life is being musicalized by these lads of Vincent Vega, the album is somewhat represent my disgust on how the world making its spin, on how I despise the life of myself, the frustration of being to cowardice to make a change, making things better, to resist and multiply, just like their album title “always hard to make a change, just like how to stay the same”.

always hard to make a change, just like how to stay the same
